Wedding Make-up Regret

I was so excited the morning of my wedding day, that I completely failed to notice that I hated my makeup! How could this have happened? We had a consultation, we talked about what I wanted and we planned it all out. I even wore this makeup all day long during my bridal portraits. Somehow, while looking at the whole packaged deal in the mirror, I had failed to see that the style of make-up I had on simply wasn’t 'me'.

Analyzing the situation later, I came to the conclusion that the biggest problem with my make-up-look was the fact that I had no eyeliner on my top lid. I always make it a point to put at least mascara and eyeliner on before getting out of the house; so looking at pictures of me after the fact was strange, because I didn’t feel like I looked like myself without it.

Getting ready for my bridal shots, as you can see, I have no top liner or defined lashes. 

It was then that I realized how important make-up was. Originally I considered spending money on being beautiful shallow and unnecessary for the big day. I thought I wanted to be natural, and as close to my normal self as I possibly could, but let's be real, that is not really what I wanted. Seeing before and after make-up images from brides in wedding magazines really put everything into perspective. Make-up can make or break any bridal look, and It can definitely transform you, and on you wedding day you just want to look beautiful!

I have seen plenty of brides go through this experience. Luckily, most of them are able to notice it the day of their bridal portraits. In order to avoid wedding make-up regret I would recommend most brides-to-be is to do your make-up homework. Here are some tips to make the best out of your bridal make-up look.

1.) Do the consultations.

Some brides tend to skip these and hire someone for the bridal portrait day only to minimize costs. Doing this may give you the extra headache of having to re-shoot the images.

2.) Know what you want.

Research, research, research! Check out Pinterest for styles and define what you want. You can go as far as printing out your make-up looks or bringing magazine cutouts for your make-up artist. Also, Youtube has an amazing make-up community with girls that will walk you step by step towards achieving your desired look. They will even recommend which products and colors to use.

3.) Be Specific.

You can never give too much detail. I used to be the kind of person that would tell their stylist “whatever you prefer, you are the professional” That is exactly why I ended up with platinum hair, which was never my intent. Be specific as to what you want and the look and feel you are trying to achieve.

4.) Document your style.
During a consultation have the makeup stylist take notes on the products and colors they used for your make-up. Also, make sure that you take a picture of your completed look so the stylist can easily replicate the look the day of the wedding.
